15 Things You can do to Improve Your Home for $100

With the days growing longer, and the frequency of warmer weather becoming more common, it is time to think about what you can do for your home. Even if you aren't considering moving or placing your home on the market, a little spring cleaning can improve the look, feel, and comfort of your home . . . and, hey it can even improve the ease with which you sell your home in the future.
In the article I have enclosed from the Home and Garden section of The Washington Post there are several ideas I love and see real value in achieving. One onerous task that probably just about everyone hates is cleaning out of a closet or drawers. Recently I tackled our medicine and toiletries closet. Ever wonder what the shelf life is for over-the-counter medicines, it's an easy google question, or just go by the expiration date on the box. I got super motivated when I was at our local Home Sense store and found these awesome clear acrylic bins measuring about 6" by 21". These bins were a perfect fit to have two on each shelf. I pulled everything out of the closet and off the shelves. It was an ugly mess. I had bottles, boxes, containers, etc. all over the bathroom floor and countertop. Next, I grouped like items together. Sunscreens & lotions in one bin, all things of the dental variety in the next, and so on. My before and after is nothing short of sheer genius (if I say so myself). This project was a true "win-win" situation because we are now super organized for finding what we need when we need it. Each bin can be pulled out to look through it, and when we move it will be so easy to pull everything out and place it in boxes for our new home!
Another wonderful spring project, once the days begin to grow longer is a little painting or paint touch-up around the house. Doors and frames around doors often get dinged, and it's also a great time to look at your home and update the color on your walls. I'm thinking about white in our breakfast nook, the old terra cotta look is warm and inviting, but newer color schemes make this room feel dated. I find Houzz to be a wonderful resource, besides my artistically inclined daughter as she never holds back her opinion!

Have a great spring!
